Redivivus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JKJKFF LMNMOOTo day I took old rhymes that I had written | A |
And read them through each one unto the end | B |
When with a swift nostalgia was I smitten | A |
As with sad memories of some old friend | B |
Some happy wayward man I used to know | C |
Long since Alas And by the way heigh ho | C |
- | |
All his it seemed these sudden cheerful spasms | D |
Of humor poured from an untroubled mind | E |
These old ambitions old enthusiasms | D |
When all the world seemed true and men most kind | E |
When roseate skies were never tinged with grey | F |
Ah woe And so to speak alack a day | F |
- | |
All his these views so unsophisticated | G |
These thoughts so innocent and yet so wise | H |
Such minds as mine have never contemplated | G |
A world so free of guile so free of lies | H |
A world of woe and wickedness so free | I |
Of misery And as it were ah me | I |
- | |
Not mine this intricate yet careless weaving | J |
Of joyous rhymes Not mine this happy twist | K |
Surely not mine 'Tis far beyond believing | J |
Such songs come from some youthful optimist | K |
Who gaily danced along life's primrose way | F |
And yet Well once again alack a day | F |
- | |
Yet they are mine these merry lilting phrases | L |
Never again shall I pen such sweet lays | M |
Never again shall I But why the blazes | N |
Shouldn't I Odds fish and spare me days | M |
Why shouldn't I The time is surely ripe | O |
For verses far surpassing this old tripe | O |
