'ned' Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEFEGG HIIJKK FLDLMM

When Ned was a neophyte nobody heeded himA
No man could prophesy none could foretellB
How when the day came that the populace needed himA
Quite a new Ned would emerge from his shellB
For he blithered and blathered and talked without endC
In a manner provoking to foe and to friendC
-
In days of prosperity peevish asperityD
Ever informed his debate in the HouseE
Some hint or suspicion of fault or omissionF
And Ned would arise without thinking and rouseE
But 'tis strange what a change has come over the fellowG
Who faced with stern duty grown thoughtful and mellowG
-
When clowns are stampeded and strong men are neededH
'Tis well that the man has arrived with the hourI
Who wielding a sabre as ever for LaborI
Sees prejudice wane as he waxes in pow'rJ
And 'mid froth and faction can still keep his headK
While we gasp at the grit of the latter day NedK
-
There are men it is written who when they are smittenF
By fate may develop new firmness and calmL
Tho' other men curse it he thrives on adversityD
Lately for doggedness taking the palmL
And arising refreshed to the popular joyM
A leader new armed and a broth of a boyM
