Melba Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJCCCC

Born to the sun and smiling skiesA
And bird songs to the morning flungB
To joyousness that never diesA
In hearts that stay for ever youngB
'Twas here beneath the shining treesC
She paused to learn the magic runeD
Of those unlaboured ecstasiesC
That keep a weary world in tuneD
-
-
The grey thrush fluting by the nestE
The golden whistler trilling highF
Their gifts she captured and expressedE
In magic notes that may not dieF
Then to the old grey world she gaveG
Exultingly at Art's commandH
In songs that live beyond the graveG
Her message from a bright young landH
-
-
With sheer exuberance of ArtI
Won from that happy feathered throngJ
She poured our sunshine from her heartI
Translated into magic songJ
And tho' alas the singer diesC
Who bade old continents rejoiceC
Not ever from our sunlit skiesC
Departs the memory of her voiceC
