Mad, But Not So Mad Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABACAC DEDEFGFFG HIHIJKJK LML NONNP

Though our eye in recent seasonsA
Has a wild and glassy glareB
And we fail to offer reasonsA
For the straws that deck our hairB
There are certain consolationsA
That are unction for the soulC
When we view the older nationsA
Gone completely up the poleC
-
We may be mad but not so madD
As others quite bereftE
Of reason Though our case is sadD
We've sparks of gumption leftE
For while we have the art to seeF
From this our island raftG
How mad the other nations beF
That sail the economic seaF
We're not completely daftG
-
In regard to hops and butterH
Wheat and sugar things like theseI
Our insanity is utterH
As evinced by subsidiesI
In regard to other mattersJ
As events have proved todayK
We're not quite as mad as hatersJ
Or not so far anywayK
-
And tho' our land's a troubled landL
But few of us are foundM
Making insane attempts to standL
'With ears upon the ground '-
Contortionists might very wellN
Attempt it without fearO
But it must come of stuff they sellN
When Breweries as judges tellN
Are standing on their earsP
