Who are these blokes with bulging browsA
I see all o'er the shopB
The layman asked Them's scientistsC
Replied the courteous copB
They are the country's biggest brainsD
There's nothing they don't knowE
The ways of stars the eight of sunsF
And why the winds do blowE
Then think you they could cure this coldG
That leaves me leaden eyedH
Well no they ain't quite up to thatI
The constable repliedH
-
But they could take a man apartJ
And sew him up againK
As good as new they know how treesL
Grow from a tiny grainM
And they can harness wireless wavesN
And make hem do their willO
Or split an atom bang in twoP
Or cleave a mighty hillO
But could they make this north wind changeQ
A point to east or westR
Well no the cop replied not yetS
That's far too stiff a testR
-
But they can cause electric eyesT
To shut and open doorsU
Or answer telephones or guideH
A great ship from the shoresU
Their ographies' and ologies'U
And wonders that they planV
To shove ahead this human raceU
Do fair amaze a manV
Why they'll have television soonW
Or so I've heard or readX
And will that make man happierY
The simple layman saidX
-
Tho' most amazing as you sayU
The things they do and knowE
They cannot make the rain to fallZ
Or cause the breeze to blowE
They cannot build one blade of grassU
Or read a flapper's mindA2
That collar stud I dropped this mornB2
I'll swear they could not findA2
Move on there cried the constableC2
These ain't things for a jokeD2
Upon my word I never seeU
So iggnerint a blokeD2
