Kemal - The Posh Pasha Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEF GHIHJDKF LMNMODPF QDRDSDTF

We have heard of the mythical lands of the EastA
And of caliphs and sultans galoreB
Of Haroun al Raschid of Abdul the beastA
And dark deeds by the Bosphorous shoreB
But the picture we knew fades completely from viewC
When we glimpse modern wonders that areD
In the wonderful land of the greatest of TurksE
Of Mustapha Kemal PashaF
-
With a wave of his hand he has altered his landG
From a fabulous country and strangeH
To an organised State wide awake up to dateI
And he's made them content with the changeH
Bastinado and bow strings and bodies in bagsJ
And the flash of the sharp scimitarD
Are but memories dim since they learned pep and vimK
From Mustapha Kemal PashaF
-
No magician of old ever dared to unfoldL
Such a box of tricks and strange spellsM
To the joy of the males he has banished the veilsN
From the faces of Bosphorous bellesM
Now with lip stick and shingle they joyfully mingleO
With crowds in the modern bazaarD
Whilst straw hatted young bloods in swish tailor made dudsP
Swear by Mustapha Kemal PashaF
-
Cross legged on a couch cross grained with a grouchQ
Old die hards smoke hookahs and glowerD
As they sigh for the days of the fez and old waysR
With harems and intrigues in flowerD
But the light hearted lads give the bird to their dadsS
While they puff at a fag or cigarD
To have all their trust as Mustapha mustT
Must gladden Mustapha PashaF
