I know that yesterday you made a vow | A |
And most solemnly 'twas spoken | B |
But how many have you broken | B |
Oh you kept 'em for an hour or two But How | A |

You swore at twelve o'clock or thereabouts | C |
Most resolutely scorning any doubts | C |
That the glad New Year would find you | D |
With your vices all behind you | D |
And you'd be the very best of good boy scouts | C |

But you fell And oh how quickly did you fall | E |
And now you're feeling low and mean and small | E |
For despite all your devising | F |
You have come to realising | F |
That you're really only human after all | E |

Ah well at least you had the will to try | G |
And you may reform some day before you die | G |
And there's this small consolation | B |
On the road to reformation | B |
There's another New Year coming by and by | G |
