Important People Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBCBDBD EBEBFGFG HIHIJKJK LBLBMNMN

The success of the Scout movement throughout the whole world has been amply proven by the present triumphant gathering in MelbourneA
Great and important people theseB
Important far beyond our kenC
Who mark with adult sophistriesB
Their serious air of sober menC
Their fancy garb their solemn fussB
With code and law their tender ageD
Soon shall they count for more than usB
Stale actors on an outworn stageD
-
They are say we mere children drawnE
By make believe from many landsB
Yet soon at some swift morrow's dawnE
Earth's destiny top these small handsB
Must pass and should their creed prevailF
As well it may for all earth's goodG
They shall have triumphed where we failF
In peace and long sought brotherhoodG
-
Here rests a new world's shining hopeH
And we a mad world's residueI
Doomed lately in dark ways to gropeH
May yet thro' them find dreams come trueI
Dreams that our blunted senses soughtJ
To grasp in one exalted hourK
And lost the good for which men foughtJ
Brought into everlasting flowerK
-
Important people Who are weL
To greet with patronising smilesB
Their creed of regained chivalryL
We who are cheated by crude wilesB
Of greed and folly and becameM
Flotsam forlorn and tempest tossedN
More precious far their childish gameM
Than wisdom in our chaos lostN
