| Despite his looks the man must be half witted | B |
| They gasped for air they gazed on him in scorn | A |
| And tried to think of epithets that fitted | C |
| Clown Dolt Unlettered oaf And yet some spark | D |
| Of clear intelligence seemed in his bearing | E |
| Men called him clever But his one remark | D |
| His only one had left them gaping staring | E |

| Long had they argued first this one then that | F |
| Sedately quietly gravely polemic | G |
| No voice was raised each had the subject pat | F |
| A weighty matter almost academic | G |
| But he had said no word but sat and read | H |
| A book by Einstein while the rest disputed | C |
| A hand supporting his fine massive head | H |
| And seemed to be all that he was reputed | B |

| And still they talked and talked till some one stopped | I |
| Searching for words and so the thread was broken | J |
| Then he looked up and then the bomb was dropped | I |
| As joining the discussion he had spoken | J |
| His long white finger marking still his place | K |
| Upon the page he read the question rolling | E |
| Prim and precise he said with smiling face | K |
| 'Excuse me but er what IS body bowling ' | - |
