Gentlemen a politicianA
One who values his positionA
Stands with easy confidenceB
Here before you on the fenceC
For he knows full well good friendsD
All your aims and all your endsD
And that these you may attainE
He will strive with might and mainE
-
-
Gentlemen my sole ambitionA
Is to see that your conditionA
Shall continue to improveF
Wherefore I shall shortly moveF
For a special grant to buyG
Extra bedding for your styG
Force it from the GovernmentH
For the folk I representI
-
-
Gentlemen You crave nutritionA
And I hold my high positionA
By your will and by your votesJ
Pollard you shall have and oatsJ
And I know you'll vote for meK
In elections yet to beK
While I cater for your needsL
Promising yet further feedsL
-
-
Gentlemen The OppositionA
By its frequent repetitionA
Of base lies would have you thinkM
They'd increase your food and drinkM
Friends their secret aim I knowN
Is to cut your rations lowN
And while they but sneer and scoffO
It is we who fill your troughO
-
-
Gentlemen This talk of 'Nation'N
Is a vile abominationN
You are asked to sacrificeP
Food and swill and pay a priceP
For a shibboleth like thatQ
You are asked to give your fatQ
That your children by and byeG
May possess a better styG
-
-
Gentlemen The aspirationN
To build up a mighty nationN
Is a question far too bigR
For an ordinary pigR
Truly we don't care a damnN
When we're bacon pork or hamN
What the fate of pigs may beK
Let 'em root the same as weK
-
-
Gentlemen This tortured questionN
Gives you mental indigestionN
Such vague things you do not heedS
Food in plenty is your needS
In my place in ParliamentH
It is you I representI
And I'll face all vile affrontsT
For your sakes Delighted gruntsT
-
-
Gentlemen The propositionN
For the honest politicianN
Is 'Can I secure more oatsJ
For the folk who give me votesJ
Can I fill their troughs and giveU
Mush to them that I may live '-
To that end he should employV
All his art Loud squeals of joyV
-
-
Gentlemen A politicianN
With my knowledge and positionN
Knows full well that such as youW
Take the plain right thinking viewW
For himself each fatted pigR
And for all the rest a figR
Gentlemen I greet your ranksX
And accept your grunt of thanksX
