'E's a tough ole saltA
With a 'ide well tannedB
An' it ain't 'is faultA
If the craft is mannedB
With a motley sort er crewC
Ya hooC
An' it is a mixed up crewC
But 'e's sailed 'as 'e on many a seaD
An' e's journeyed nigh an' furE
'E's a tough ole rough ole not to mention gruff oleF
Bluff ole mar i nerE
-
Fer 'e sailed amongG
The Labor SeasH
When 'e wus youngG
An' since that 'e'sH
Been on all sorts o' craftI
AbaftI
And 'fore the mast 'o craftI
Fer ther ain't no boat that's bin afloatI
As 'e don't know ev'ry sparE
This sly ole fly ole mind yer weather eye oleF
Spry ole deep sea tarE
-
Once in the shipJ
Re pub li canK
'E took a tripJ
As a 'fore mast manK
An' e transhipped in mid seaH
Did 'eL
Went overside at seaH
Frum a Freetrade raft to a 'Tection craftI
'E knows 'em stem to starnM
'E's ratin' as a great un at the art of navigatin'M
An' 'e ain't got much to larnM
To watch 'im skipJ
On 's nimble feetI
Frum ship to shipJ
Is a 'igh ole treatI
Fer 'e don't stop long on noneM
'E's doneM
A fair long cruise on noneM
But 'e's larned a lot from the points 'e gotI
Since 'is cruisin' fust beganM
This saine old smarty sail with any partyH
Hearty aailor manM
-
Now 'e's signed fust mateI
Fer another tripJ
Fer to naviprateI
The Fusion shipJ
An' a crazy craft she isH
Gee whizzH
An' a frail ole tub she isH
With a crew o' sorts from all the portsH
An' a chance o' mutineeM
But 'e'll see the vessel thro' it if there's any man kin do itI
Fer a hard ole salt is 'eL
-
Fer the best o' matesH
Is 'im thet's gotI
Cer tif i catesH
From the 'ole darn lotI
When the stormy winds do blowN
Yo hoN
When the windy storms do blowN
On a Tory tramp 'is callin' dampO
'E 'as managed to pursooH
Now 'e 'as to larn twin screw ways with 'er nose a pointin' two waysH
An' a fair ole rorty crewE
-
But 'is eye's glued tightI
On the compass faceH
An' 'e'll make a fightI
Fer the anch'rin' placeH
Fer the Harbor o' RecessH
O yesH
There's a harbor at RecessH
An' 'e'll do it yet with luck you betI
Fer 'e' allus bin at seaH
An' there ain't no glummer salt lightly go an' comer saltI
Rummer sort o'somer salt than 'eL
