Mr Fitzmickle the martinet	A
Still with an iron hand	A
Rules house and home Like a peevish gnome	B
He barks each curt command	A
And he packs the family off to bed	A
Since a wireless 'fan' he's grown	C
And each obeys while Papa stays	D
And harks to the Test alone	C

Mr Fitzmickle the martinet	A
Sat last Saturday night	A
Glowing with pride as Australia's side	A
Rose to the loftiest height	A
Then just as the fun grew furious	E
And the batsmen forged ahead	A
Came a horrible shriek a click and a squeak	F
And the speaker went stone dead	A

Mr Fitzmickle the martinet	A
Fiddled with urgent thumb	G
At many a screw in a terrible stew	A
But ever the set stayed dumb	G
So up the stairs in his stocking feet	A
He stole to his small son there	H
Whose expert hand now took command	A
And the Test was again on the air	H

Frowned at his small meek heir	H
'You'll wait ' said he 'lest the thing won't gee	I
Quiet sir Sit over there '	-
And his small son hugging himself in glee	I
As the game went merrily on	J
Sat listening in with a rapturous grin	K
To the triumphs of 'Billy' and 'Don '	-

Mr Fitzmickle the martinet	A
Seized with a strange wild joy	L
As the centuries came with his eye aflame	M
Clutched at the startled boy	L
And Mrs Fitzmickle roused from sleep	N
Saw a sight to wonder at	A
Fitzmickle and son at half past one	O
Dancing a jig on the mat	A

Mr Fitzmickle the martinet	A
Said with a sheepish grin	K
'Why Mother's here Sit down my dear	P
Sit down and listen in '	-
And the small son whispered when all was o'er	Q
And the winter dawn began	R
In his mother's ear 'Ma ain't it queer	P
Pappas's just like a man '	-
