Farewell Cable Tram Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHJKL MANAA OPQPRSTS GUVUWDXDYAZAA

Now a sad farewell to the cable tramA
Staunch friend of the quieter daysB
That glided down thro' a leisured townC
Ere the urge for speed was a crazeB
We'd time to spare and we took the airD
On a sociable seat outsideE
Calm charioteers of those peaceful yearsF
When 'the trams' were a city's prideE
-
Clash Clang The twin bells rangG
And the grip went smoothly inH
Then we floated along to a muted songI
And a dearth of hustle and dinH
Untouched by the need for racketting speedJ
That frazzles the moderns' nervesK
Scarce heeding at all the warning callL
'Sit tight Hold on at the curve '-
Unhurried serene we viewed the sceneM
Or chatted with Charlie or SamA
Oh in spite of the rage of a jazz mad ageN
I'm still for the cable tram I amA
The jolly old cable tramA
-
But they're rooting them out the cable tramsO
Like all earth's pleasanter thingsP
To oblivion brought by a JuggernautQ
That needs no leading stringsP
And they'll serve when dead for a shelter shedR
By some shrill suburban roadS
Or a garden 'nook ' unbelievably crookT
At a philistine's abodeS
-
Clash Clang How the breezes sangG
On a sunny Sabbath DayU
And away we go with Fanny or FloV
For a tram trip down the BayU
'What O There's class ' Proud ponies passW
With their shining jinkers thereD
And joy's complete we've a front row seatX
And the sea wind's in our hairD
And never a car snorts by to marY
That peace with its swank and shamA
You may keep your noise and your clattering toysZ
I'm for the cable tram I amA
Idyllic old cable tramA
