Farewell Cable Tram Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHJKL MANAA OPQPRSTS GUVUWDXDYAZAANow a sad farewell to the cable tram | A |
Staunch friend of the quieter days | B |
That glided down thro' a leisured town | C |
Ere the urge for speed was a craze | B |
We'd time to spare and we took the air | D |
On a sociable seat outside | E |
Calm charioteers of those peaceful years | F |
When 'the trams' were a city's pride | E |
- | |
Clash Clang The twin bells rang | G |
And the grip went smoothly in | H |
Then we floated along to a muted song | I |
And a dearth of hustle and din | H |
Untouched by the need for racketting speed | J |
That frazzles the moderns' nerves | K |
Scarce heeding at all the warning call | L |
'Sit tight Hold on at the curve ' | - |
Unhurried serene we viewed the scene | M |
Or chatted with Charlie or Sam | A |
Oh in spite of the rage of a jazz mad age | N |
I'm still for the cable tram I am | A |
The jolly old cable tram | A |
- | |
But they're rooting them out the cable trams | O |
Like all earth's pleasanter things | P |
To oblivion brought by a Juggernaut | Q |
That needs no leading strings | P |
And they'll serve when dead for a shelter shed | R |
By some shrill suburban road | S |
Or a garden 'nook ' unbelievably crook | T |
At a philistine's abode | S |
- | |
Clash Clang How the breezes sang | G |
On a sunny Sabbath Day | U |
And away we go with Fanny or Flo | V |
For a tram trip down the Bay | U |
'What O There's class ' Proud ponies pass | W |
With their shining jinkers there | D |
And joy's complete we've a front row seat | X |
And the sea wind's in our hair | D |
And never a car snorts by to mar | Y |
That peace with its swank and sham | A |
You may keep your noise and your clattering toys | Z |
I'm for the cable tram I am | A |
Idyllic old cable tram | A |
