Drapers Dummies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDD EFEFGHI JKJKLLCC M MNOOPP

What do they dream about standing thereA
In the windows facing the streetB
Eyes transfixed in a strange far stareA
Smiles so ineffably sweetB
Lady and gentleman dummies cladC
In the newest fashion the latest fadC
Garbed so expensively well turned outD
What have they got to commune aboutD
-
Winter comes Now a chill wind stirsE
The rain comes pattering downF
But they suddenly snuggle in coats and fursE
And the coziest cloaks in townF
Field glasses there or a race book hereG
'The National Why of course my dearH
I mean to be there tho' Trophet may freezeI
How could I miss it in clothes like these '-
-
Spring smiles down and the days grow brightJ
And the ladies garbed anewK
Change like the tulips overnightJ
To gowns of many a hueK
As in a garden gay colors glowL
They are thinking of Henley the Cup the ShowL
While each glad gentleman blazer cladC
Is the beau ideal of the sporting ladC
-
But Henley comes and the Show the CupM
Yet no superior 'gent '-
No simpering lady e'er turns upM
For still in their windows pentN
Dressed for the revel how like they seemO
To me and to many who stand and dreamO
Poor human dummies but half aliveP
Who are always 'going' but never arriveP
