Down, But Not Out Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDCEF GBHBBIEI BBJBKLML CINIMOP

Oh how I hate these chills these winter illsA
Bleak blasts and breezesB
Abominate the 'flu ' the fierce 'Tishoo'C
All inappropriate sneezesB
How I detest th' uneasy wheezy chestD
Yet tho' the declaration may seem priggishC
Fate I defy and to Cold's cohorts cryE
Indomitable ever 'Ick Ip Iggish 'F
-
I dream of coral isles where sunlight smilesG
And high noon blazesB
Where luscious tropic green is vaguely seenH
Thro' dancing hazesB
I long for these and then some biting breezeB
Pierces my being like an icy splinterI
Yet once more I with shrill defiance cryE
And fling taunts in the teeth of woeful WinterI
-
I know this dread disease brings me uneaseB
Most deleteriousB
And well indeed I know I often growJ
Slightly deliriousB
But all the same nought may my spirit tameK
Fears I have never felt nor eke confessed anyL
Tho' some have said I'm partly off my headM
When I bark challenges at brooding DestinyL
-
Oft Ip Excuse me Snisch Often I wishC
For sword and bucklerI
To slake my seething hate To sneering FateN
I am no trucklerI
Tho' my poor head pain wreathed sinks to the bedM
Ah bleak battalions I would smite and smash youO
For don't forget I am my own man yetP
While my unconquerable soul shouts 'Ack Harrashoo '-
