For the danger was clear to all | F |
Dread death was abroad where the child had gone | G |
But he answered to never a call | F |
He harked to the birds and he dreamed his dreams | H |
As deep in the forest he sat | D |
And his mind went back to those two great themes | H |
Dinner and Dinty the cat | D |
- | |
They found him at last with a smile on his face | I |
As he prattled of important things | J |
And in thankfulness for the heavenly grace | I |
Men gave to their faith wings | J |
They pondered in fear what might have been | K |
And on terrors thro' fear begat | D |
But he prattled away in a mood serene | L |
Of dinner and Dinty the cat | D |

Dinner and Dinty How much we lost | M |
When our joy in the simple things waned | N |

With our wisdom what have we gained | N |
For how much weariness wisdom brings | J |
As the world grows dreary and flat | D |
Since we lost out joy in the innocent things | J |
Like dinner and Dinty the cat | D |
