Rhyme Scheme: ABAABCDCCCD EAEEACBCCCB FBFFBCGCCCGBy White Horse Tavern White Horse Road | A |
In olden days wound down | B |
And many a waggon bore its load | A |
And many a bullock felt the goad | A |
From town to country town | B |
Thro' Ringwood on by hill and vale | C |
Their patient way they went | D |
Until they came to Lilydale | C |
The olden town of Lilydale | C |
And teamsters paused at Lilydale | C |
A place of calm content | D |
- | |
But days of bitumen and tar | E |
Have changed the ancient mode | A |
And now the speeding motor car | E |
Where traffic cops and bowsers are | E |
Go down the White Horse Road | A |
Upon a smooth broad way they sail | C |
Till sudden up and down | B |
The bumps begin at Lilydale | C |
The rocky road to Lilydale | C |
The holey road to Lilydale | C |
A very peaceful town | B |
- | |
Beyond the town the bumps are past | F |
And vexed springs settle down | B |
But many an angry look is cast | F |
And many a curse speeds backwards fast | F |
Toward that backward town | B |
On to the foothills leads the trail | C |
By smooth and pleasant ways | G |
But oh that stretch thro' Lilydale | C |
The sleepy town of Lilydale | C |
Where folk still think in Lilydale | C |
In terms of bullock drays | G |
