Country Roads ~ White Horse Road Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAABCDCCCD EAEEACBCCCB FBFFBCGCCCG

By White Horse Tavern White Horse RoadA
In olden days wound downB
And many a waggon bore its loadA
And many a bullock felt the goadA
From town to country townB
Thro' Ringwood on by hill and valeC
Their patient way they wentD
Until they came to LilydaleC
The olden town of LilydaleC
And teamsters paused at LilydaleC
A place of calm contentD
-
But days of bitumen and tarE
Have changed the ancient modeA
And now the speeding motor carE
Where traffic cops and bowsers areE
Go down the White Horse RoadA
Upon a smooth broad way they sailC
Till sudden up and downB
The bumps begin at LilydaleC
The rocky road to LilydaleC
The holey road to LilydaleC
A very peaceful townB
-
Beyond the town the bumps are pastF
And vexed springs settle downB
But many an angry look is castF
And many a curse speeds backwards fastF
Toward that backward townB
On to the foothills leads the trailC
By smooth and pleasant waysG
But oh that stretch thro' LilydaleC
The sleepy town of LilydaleC
Where folk still think in LilydaleC
In terms of bullock draysG
