Country Roads ~ Pretty Sally Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBDEDDE FGFFGHEHHE BGBBGIEIIE

The diggers came from BendigoA
From Albury the droversB
From where the Goulburn waters flowC
Came bearded teamsters travelling slowC
And all the brown bush roversB
And where the road goes winding stillD
To dropp to Melbourne valleyE
They sought the shanty by the hillD
And called for beer and drank their fillD
And sparked with Pretty SallyE
-
The teamsters halted by the doorF
To give their horses waterG
And stood about the bar room floorF
To ogle while they had one moreF
The shanty keeper's daughterG
Diggers with gold from creek to claimH
About her used to rallyE
Shearers and booted stockmen cameH
And to the hill they gave her nameH
For all loved Pretty SallyE
-
I see her now a sparkling lassB
Brim full of fun and laughterG
And where the slow teams used to passB
And swagmen paused to beg a glassB
Now motor cars speed afterG
And when I seek the road anewI
That dips down to the valleyE
I see again that bearded crewI
And of the lovers wonder whoI
At last wed Pretty SallyE
