Country Pubs Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EEFFGGH FFFFAAAA EEIIAAJ

We know those little country pubsA
By cross road and by creekB
Where faithfully the landlord scrubsA
His counter once a weekB
And stands before his shining barC
To cater for man's thirstD
With all the best but where the meals areC
He caters with the worstD
-
'Wottle you 'ave ' There's beer or brandyE
Rum or half and half or shandyE
Wine or whisky Bottles winkF
'Wottle you 'ave boys Name your drink'F
But in the grimy dining roomG
A slattern lass of grease and gloomG
Intones in accents charged with griefH
'Wottle you 'ave There's corn beef '-
-
In the bar the talk grows gayF
The landlord beams for trade agogF
And yokels wile dull hours awayF
Idly yarning o'er their grogF
But in that cave of gastric woesA
Grimly the hungry traveller eatsA
To end by turning up his noseA
And hoping to fill up on sweetsA
-
'Wottle you 'ave ' The cups are cloudyE
Linen soiled The waitress dowdyE
Comes like an avenging fateI
Snatching at the greasy plateI
Soggy cabbage soapy 'spuds'A
Droning flies and smell of sudsA
Now she whines like some lost soulJ
'Wottle you 'ave There's jam roll '-
