Convalescence Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEE FFGGHHII JJKKLLMM AANNOOPP

Underneath a tree I lieA
Watching with lack lustre eyeA
All those little trivial thingsB
Weakness after sickness bringsB
Watching birds flit to and froC
Watching how the grasses growC
Watching how the leaves and treesD
Blend in Autumn harmoniesD
And wise insects taught by GodE
Build their shelters in the sodE
-
Oh how low the pride of menF
Falls and grovels meekly whenF
Convalescence comes at lastG
After long borne sufferings pastG
E'en the arrogance of painH
That strange vanity is vainH
And he lies a stricken thingI
Bereft of even sufferingI
-
All is gone the pain the prideJ
Arrogance is laid asideJ
And he owes all things he'd doK
To some worthier being whoK
Out of charity shall seekL
To assist the helpless weakL
Out of charity to lendM
Splendid strength he is to spendM
-
So beneath the tree I lieA
Reading with a languid eyeA
Views of that and views of thisN
In a world so long amissN
And by some strange alchemyO
Suddenly it seems to meO
That as Earth's wild turmoils ceaseP
Comes convalescence now and peaceP
