Christmas Scene Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFGHHIJ KKLLMMN OOOOPPQQ RROOSSTT OOIJUUPP

To this green place the tourists troopA
By twos by threes and group by groupA
Lads in bright blazers girls in slacksB
Hikers with rucksack on their backsB
And bush ways till their advent stilledC
With joyous shouting now is filledC
'Cooee ' each gay town dweller criesD
And counts himself full forest wiseD
-
An old grey bushman lounging byE
Marks the sophisticated cryE
And smiles a little as he saysF
'The city folk got real queer waysG
What's this here 'cooee' mean at allH
Seems like a kind of mating callH
Childish they seem ' He smiles againI
The wise one in his own domainJ
-
Here's his revenge for all he meetsK
Of stares and smiles in city streetsK
For ridicule and laughing snubsL
By city paths and city pubsL
He deems it now the crowning jokeM
To 'pull the legs' of city folkM
'What Snakes ' says he 'By gosh you're rightN
It's days like this they're apt to fight '-
-
So moves the pageantry todayO
By many a pleasant bushland wayO
And laughing crowds wake merrimentO
Where once mid silences there wentO
Some wandering band of blacks to seekP
Their scanty fare by hill and creekP
Less than ten score of years agoQ
And of the future Who may knowQ
-
Content amid this Christmas sceneR
Of gleaming sky and glowing greenR
And happy shouts one well might prayO
For even yet some happier dayO
When growing saner kindlier stillS
May devise by wooded hillS
And shaded vale some scene of mirthT
As yet unvisioned on our eathT
-
Is it for this our feet are setO
While war and folly men forgetO
Orm ust this land drift back againI
To primal silence making vainJ
All that our vaunted progress wonU
Who knows Who cares Here is the sunU
Glad youth calls youth by hill and creekP
These are no thoughts for Christmas weekP
