Christmas Scene Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFGHHIJ KKLLMMN OOOOPPQQ RROOSSTT OOIJUUPPTo this green place the tourists troop | A |
By twos by threes and group by group | A |
Lads in bright blazers girls in slacks | B |
Hikers with rucksack on their backs | B |
And bush ways till their advent stilled | C |
With joyous shouting now is filled | C |
'Cooee ' each gay town dweller cries | D |
And counts himself full forest wise | D |
- | |
An old grey bushman lounging by | E |
Marks the sophisticated cry | E |
And smiles a little as he says | F |
'The city folk got real queer ways | G |
What's this here 'cooee' mean at all | H |
Seems like a kind of mating call | H |
Childish they seem ' He smiles again | I |
The wise one in his own domain | J |
- | |
Here's his revenge for all he meets | K |
Of stares and smiles in city streets | K |
For ridicule and laughing snubs | L |
By city paths and city pubs | L |
He deems it now the crowning joke | M |
To 'pull the legs' of city folk | M |
'What Snakes ' says he 'By gosh you're right | N |
It's days like this they're apt to fight ' | - |
- | |
So moves the pageantry today | O |
By many a pleasant bushland way | O |
And laughing crowds wake merriment | O |
Where once mid silences there went | O |
Some wandering band of blacks to seek | P |
Their scanty fare by hill and creek | P |
Less than ten score of years ago | Q |
And of the future Who may know | Q |
- | |
Content amid this Christmas scene | R |
Of gleaming sky and glowing green | R |
And happy shouts one well might pray | O |
For even yet some happier day | O |
When growing saner kindlier still | S |
May devise by wooded hill | S |
And shaded vale some scene of mirth | T |
As yet unvisioned on our eath | T |
- | |
Is it for this our feet are set | O |
While war and folly men forget | O |
Orm ust this land drift back again | I |
To primal silence making vain | J |
All that our vaunted progress won | U |
Who knows Who cares Here is the sun | U |
Glad youth calls youth by hill and creek | P |
These are no thoughts for Christmas week | P |
