Bridles For Butterflies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

They must not talk That strong and silent creatureA
The male of homo sapiens bears the banB
With calm aplomb Speech is a trivial featureA
In any sport conducted by mere manB
Thus when our flannelled Knights go forth to battleC
They dumbly concentrate upon the gameD
But must athletic Eve refrain from prattleC
Because of that No no 'Tis not the sameD
-
-
Sauce for the goose 'tis said is sauce for ganderA
And vice versa Futile euphonyE
To differentiate defer and panderA
Was e'er the rule when dealing with the 'She '-
Sharp hooks in ears of elephants may steer themF
Quite painlessly But what sane man would tryG
To harness doves or bring a halter near themF
Or bit and bridle to a butterflyG
-
-
They must not talk Such order to a shrinkingH
Press dodging cricketer brings small distressI
But listen girls what sort of sloppy thinkingH
Seeks to extend it to the cricketressI
Go tell the bee she may not buzz in summerA
'Mid honeyed bloom Go bid the bush birds 'Hush '-
Emus are dumb indeed could scarce be dumberA
But who for that would gag the singing thrushJ
-
-
So when you note the agonised expressionK
On Short stop's flower like face the look of painL
That lurks 'neath Long on's lip stick 'tis repressionK
That irks them temporarily but in vainL
For soon or late the prisoned flood o'erflowingH
Each carmined lip down thro' the land shall spillM
To what far field man ne'er had means of knowingH
They must not talk Sez you They must and willM
