'bobbie' For Brotherhood Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEE FGFGHCHCII IJIJBKBKII LMLMNINIII

Lang syne I penned a mickle rhymeA
That muckle grief brocht to my soulB
For critics said 'twas aye a crimeA
Nae Scottish patriot could tholeB
Whit way I ca'ed their honored bardC
Wi' kind intention 'Bobbie' BurnsD
Aye mon they smote me fine an' hardC
Wi' sic' fierce words as nae yin learnsD
Save native sons those braw stern menE
O' mountain crag an' heather glenE
-
Misdoubtin' whit my critics saidF
An' sair distressed aboot my plightG
A notion cam' intil my headF
To haud a Scottish plebisciteG
Forbye I passed frae Scot to ScotH
Spierin' whit way they named their bardC
An' aye the same reply I gotH
Wi'out dispute in sic' regardC
For ilka mon gie'd answer straightI
Wi' ne'er a thocht tae heesitateI
-
A mon frae Glasea first I speiredI
A humble an' unlettered loonJ
An' then a scholar red o' beardI
That cam' from Edinburgh toonJ
A Hielan' chief a rowan' chielB
Men oot o' Leith an' AberdeenK
Tae ane an' a' I made appealB
Tae gowk an' greybeard wife an' weanK
An' a' wi' unanimityI
The selfsame answer gi'ed tae meI
-
An 'twas na' Robert Rab or RobL
They ca'ed yon braw poetic yinM
That wakes in Scottish hearts a throbL
Wi' words that mak' the whole world kinM
They named him 'Bobbie' wi'out shameN
As Bobbie he will ever beI
To sic' as scorn to clothe his nameN
Wi' smug respectabeelityI
To humble hearts his songs defendI
Beloved Bobbie brither friendI
