Birthday Honours Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFED AGC HIJ AJC KLC

My natal day was yesterdayA
And so I said to FateB
'What gifts bring you by one by twoC
To ease my parlous state 'D
'I proffer blindly ' Fate repliedE
From chance found joys and illsF
For you the 'flu and this besideE
A sheaf of monthly bills 'D
-
My natal day was yesterdayA
And so I said to ChanceG
'What gifts bring you by one by twoC
My fortunes to enhance '-
Said Chance 'I bring no obvious thingH
Unguessed escape bring II
From dangers rife alway in lifeJ
That closely pass you by '-
-
My natal day was yesterdayA
And so I said to LifeJ
'What gifts bring you by one by twoC
To salve me in the strife '-
But Life said 'Nought Long since I broughtK
My gifts glum misanthropeL
And these for you I here renewC
Myself and human hope '-
