Birds, Batsmen And Bowlers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEEGHEEIII JEEEKLKLEMEJENNMMM

The throstle now in English lanesA
Bids Summer strew her dear delightsB
But we intent on cricket gainsA
Watch well our valiant willow knightsB
With eager eyes on cabled newsC
We watch each bravely mounting scoreD
With ears half frozen we refuseC
To go to bed but crane for moreD
From out the ether as we sitE
And 'listen in ' tho' midnight's goneF
While glorious centuries they hitE
And if it isn't Bradman it's PonsfordE
and if it isn't Ponsford it's WoodfullG
and if it isn't Woodfull it's McCabeH
and if it isn't McCabe it's ChipperfieldE
and if it isn't ChipperfieldE
Gosh Can this sort of thing go onI
Our hope lies not alone in DonI
Others remain to carry onI
-
The Merry Mavis fluting freeJ
In England now by wood and wealdE
Calls from the edge of ArcadyE
But as our bowlers take the fieldE
We mark them with a mental eyeK
Striving against the mimic foeL
Despite one Shaw Let Mavis cryK
The foolish fowl We see them mowL
The wickets down this way and thatE
Turning the ball Rare joy we supM
To mark their cunning beat the batE
And if it isn't Wall it's O'ReillyJ
and if it isn't O'Reilly it's GrimmettE
and if it isn't Grimmett it's Fleetwood SmithN
and if it isn't Fleetwood SmithN
Oh Gosh Can our men keep this upM
The Test Alas what bitter cupM
Hey Shut that kookaburra upM
