Billy's Policeman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGFGHIHI I IJDKDK LMNMODO

I knew a policeman onceA
And this is true as it ever could beB
Who made me feel an awful dunceA
'Cos I lost my dad and it frightened meB
He came and took me by the handC
'Well now ' said he 'young fella me ladD
No need to cry I understandC
You'll soon be back with mummy and dad 'E
-
I knew the big policeman wellF
Before he'd talked the teeniest whileG
Such a lot of things he had to tellF
And he had the cheeriest merriest smileG
I've got a nipper at home like youH
So high young fella me lad ' he saidI
And all at once as true as trueH
I forgot to cry and I laughed insteadI
-
And then the big policeman saidI
'Ho that's the stuff for the troops old son '-
The funniest things came into his headI
And I laughed and laughed at every oneJ
And when they found my mummy and dadD
And he patted my head and said good byeK
Somehow or other I felt quite sadD
But I knew he'd be sorry to see me cryK
-
I know that all policemen nowL
Are just like that and it's silly to thinkM
They frown and bully and make a rowN
Why you ought to have seen my merry one winkM
And when I pass where he has his beatO
When I'm out for a walk with mummy and dadD
I wave to my big friend in the streetO
'What Ho ' says he 'young fella me lad '-
