Benalla Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIKLMLM ANANMOMO

A country lass with rosy cheeksA
A healthy maid with merry waysB
Labor 'mid loveliness she seeksA
And strives to crowd with joy her daysB
For she was raised upon a farmC
Upon a farm she grew in graceD
And in that clear air won this charmC
This sweet allure of form and faceD
-
Where she had won the art to growE
About her house about her doorF
Such loveliness as these days showE
Ask of the years that went beforeF
But learn she did as scenes attestG
By tree girt lawn and flowery wayH
Even her bridge heads flank some nestG
Of nodding roses richly gayH
-
Beyond her home the wheatlands rollI
To yield their tithes upon her dowerJ
Yet 'spite her soft aesthetic soulI
She gives not all to field and flowerK
For show the lass a well set horseL
Show her a dog with grace or speedM
Set her upon some sunlit courseL
And she knows full content indeedM
-
A country lass with rosy cheeksA
Deft and delightful who can beN
A hostess rare to one who seeksA
Her kindly hospitalityN
And here she reigns a queen indeedM
About her flowery realm to rideO
Mounted upon a well bred steedM
A good hound trotting by her sideO
