Ballad Of Lieges Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Son of our King When yoemen sailedA
From Britain to expand her swayB
The coward from High venture quailedA
The weakling sank beside the wayB
None save the strong in that far dayB
The brave stood clear eyed at the prowC
To plan such parts as venturers playB
Here be their kin who greet you nowC
-
-
Britain had failed if these had failedA
Stout pioneers whose sterner clayB
Reckless of that the task entailedA
Faced the unknown with no dismayB
Out to vast wildernesses theyB
Blazed pain strewn paths for axe ploughC
To earn this fruitful century's payB
Here be their kin who greet you nowC
-
-
When o'er an Empire bugles wailedA
To summon liegemen to the frayB
In sons the olden urge prevailedA
Nor life nor love might bid them stayB
Unblooded in red war's arrayB
They proved the breed they kept the vowC
They paid the price as liegemen mayB
Here be their kin who greet you nowC
