Averted Violence Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHI JKJKD LMLMN

Stripped to the buff they circled roundA
And jagged and swung and crossedB
To uppercut and smash and poundA
No chances either lostB
Till folks opined in some alarmC
That they might do each other harmC
-
Fiercely they swung the left and rightD
With punch and bash and cloutE
Each grimly hopeful that he mightD
Secure the glad knock outE
And as they watched the 'claret' spurtF
The crowd feared someone might be hurtF
-
The ribs of one were bruised and soreG
His chin was badly gashedH
The other's face was streaked with goreG
And yet they biffed and bashedH
And someone said 'It this goes onI
There'll be an injury anon '-
-
Harder and swifter rained the blowsJ
And fiercer grew the frayK
At chest and chin and eye and noseJ
Each boxer biffed awayK
Till cried the audience in frightD
If they're not stopped they'll start to fight '-
-
But on they battled bruised and dazedL
Scarce able now to standM
Until the Law stepped in and raisedL
A stern restraining handM
'Ah ' sighed the crowd freed from suspenseN
'It might have led to violence '-
