And jagged and swung and crossed | B |
To uppercut and smash and pound | A |
No chances either lost | B |
Till folks opined in some alarm | C |
That they might do each other harm | C |

Fiercely they swung the left and right | D |
With punch and bash and clout | E |
Each grimly hopeful that he might | D |
Secure the glad knock out | E |
And as they watched the 'claret' spurt | F |
The crowd feared someone might be hurt | F |

The ribs of one were bruised and sore | G |
His chin was badly gashed | H |
The other's face was streaked with gore | G |
And yet they biffed and bashed | H |
And someone said 'It this goes on | I |
There'll be an injury anon ' | - |

Harder and swifter rained the blows | J |
And fiercer grew the fray | K |
At chest and chin and eye and nose | J |
Each boxer biffed away | K |
Till cried the audience in fright | D |
If they're not stopped they'll start to fight ' | - |

But on they battled bruised and dazed | L |
Scarce able now to stand | M |
Until the Law stepped in and raised | L |
A stern restraining hand | M |
'Ah ' sighed the crowd freed from suspense | N |
'It might have led to violence ' | - |
