Anzac Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDEF GBG HIHIJ KBK LKLKF

Anzac And war's grim stormA
The scream of a pass'ng shellB
Torn earth and a quiet formA
'Pass comrades All is well 'C
-
Nay but his spirit lives be very sureD
Year follows year and earthly things departE
But what he dying gave us shall endureD
Now and for ever in the nation's heartE
Now and for ever tho' the flesh be goneF
Still shall that Spirit bid us 'Carry on '-
-
Anzac The mounds increaseG
Marking where soldiers fellB
Earth's healing scars and peaceG
'Sleep comrades All is well '-
-
And be full certain that they do but sleepH
Who falling yet were well content to findI
Fit sanctuary in the hearts that keepH
That spirit and that memory enshrinedI
High on Gallipoli lights that once shoneJ
Again flame o'er the ocean 'Carry on '-
-
Anzac The tramp of marching feetK
The toll of a passing bellB
Bowed heads along a city streetK
'Pass soldier All is well '-
-
Pass soldier When your dwindling ranks grow smallL
When one by one old comrades you shall greetK
When the last lonely veteran's footfallL
Goes echoing adown this city streetK
Still may that Spirit tho' all else be goneF
Cry to our sons 'Australia Carry on '-
