An Appeal To End Appeals Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD CCCC ECE AFAFGGGHC

Sir I try to do my duty as a patriotic manA
With sane views about the science of gastronomyB
And I'd ask the promulgators of each food consuming planA
To consider man's interior economyB
I shall not go into details But I merely wish to sayC
My observance hitherto has been meticulousD
Of the many noble slogans but I fear the scheme todayC
Has at last begun to merge with the ridiculousD
-
Very nobly I responded to the urge to 'Eat More Fruit'C
I bought it and consumed it with avidityC
I was keen to serve my country and the diet seemd to suitC
If we waive a tendency to slight acidityC
Then the ringing slogan sounded thro' the contry 'Eat More Wheat '-
I assimilated faithfully that cerealE
Then we were asked to eat more eggs to eat more oats more meatC
While tissue waxed both moral and materialE
-
And now sir to my horror 'Eat more butter' is the planA
But I ask you Can I hope to rise superiorF
There are symptoms And I fear the patriotic outer manA
Is at issue so to speak with the interiorF
On I long to do my gastronomic duty yet I shrinkG
I shudder tho' I swear I am no scepticG
But butter Slabs of butter There are limits don't you thinkG
Sir I remainH
Yours faithfullyC
'DYSPEPTIC '-
