Rhyme Scheme: ABACDED BEFFFE BGBBHBB BBBBBBBB

Borrowin' over the water I've seen it all beforeA
Raisin' loans said Old George JonesB
Was a trick we learned of yoreA
Borrowin' over the waterC
In the old Australian wayD
Splash the cash an' cut a dashE
An' leave the kids to payD
-
Steel rails an' sausage skins cotton goods an' fal de ralsB
Drapery an' rollin' stock an' pocket knives an' sichE
That was how we took it outF
When we was but a growin' loutF
But sich like habits calls for doubtF
Now we are grown an' richE
-
Borrowin' over the water for reproductive worksB
That ain't produced sich habits usedG
To mark the crowd that shirksB
That's why we're heaped with taxesB
In this sad year A DH
Thro' the ancient tricks of politicsB
In borrowin' overseasB
-
Airyplanes an' motor cars guns an' bombs an' bayonitsB
The cash is here to buy the things an' meet the whole expenseB
But seems we'll never mend our waysB
An' habits learned in olden daysB
Sticks hard so we keep up the crazeB
An' borrow for defenceB
Advance Australia Pile the loansB
The kids'll pay said Old George JonesB
