A Mixed Crew Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDE FFGGHH IIJKKJL FMNNFF IIOPPOQQ HHRRSSAAHTTHUU FFVVQQ

Tho' it sounds a trifle mysticA
Somewhat vague and cabbalisticA
When you come to analyse the inner sideB
Of political allianceC
You will find it is a scienceC
That embraces matters delicate and wideB
It involves the close cohesion of the faction or cabalD
And the very fleeting friendship of the temporary palE
-
-
But pull for the shore lads pull for the shoreF
Never mind wot boat yer in struggle at yer oarF
Cook is on the gunwale cursin' us fer cowsG
Deakin's in stern sheets Mauger's at the bowsG
The stormy winds are blowin' an' the enemy's at handH
We must settle it among us when we're safely on the landH
-
There's the Temporary FusionI
Which is mainly an illusionI
When you view it in the light of ev'ry dayJ
But politically trulyK
'Tis a state in which undulyK
You are never pledged or promised either wayJ
An ideal party union where a man may trim his sailL
Though vulgar folk allude to it as 'sitting on a rail '-
-
-
But pull for the shore lads pull for the shoreF
We'll settle in the harbour when the hurricane is o'erM
Quick is partly inside Irnine's partly outN
Wille Kelly's overside floundering' aboutN
Forrest's at mast'ead letting out a roarF
Never mind who owns the boat Pull for the shoreF
-
Then there's the CoalitionI
Which is entered on conditionI
You can swallow certain principles with easeO
'Tis corruption sugar coatedP
And no matter how you've votedP
In the past you may change it if you pleaseO
Though the common crowd may scoff at the reversal of your voteQ
If you murmur 'Coalition' you may safely turn your coatQ
-
-
But pull for the shore lads pull for the landH
Never mind who owns the craft lend a willin' handH
Smith is on the bowsprit yellin' 'Anti Sosh'R
Reid is on the towline draggin' in the washR
Jawbone Neild is founderin' shoutin' for a ropeS
But pull lads pull for the shore's our only hopeS
Note you now the UnderstandingA
Quite devoid of party brandingA
Where the parties undertake to understandH
That in certain set conditionsT
They'll consider their positionsT
And reach out for what they want with either handH
And for the country's welfare and the nation's lasting goodU
They agree to understand that they are all misunderstoodU
-
-
But pull for the shore lads pull for the shoreF
Groom is on the fore'atch with 'arf a dozen moreF
Knox is in the chart room makin' up his mindV
Wilks is on a hen coop draggin' on behindV
Never mind the company only keep afloatQ
You can't be too particular who's mannin' of the boatQ
