DearestA
You know you ever ARE the nearestA
To my fond heartB
Joking apartB
I swear by all the silly stars above youC
Darling I love youC
-
I really don't know what more I can sayD
But lest you mayD
Consider this epistle too briefE
And nurse some silly some absurd beliefE
That I'm neglectful WhyF
I'll tryF
To fill a sheet or twoC
To comfort youC
What can I sayD
Oh by the wayD
I noticed somewhere in the paper latelyG
That someone named er was it Mister BlaitleyG
No Blakeley I thinkH
Another dip of inkH
This Mr Blakeley says the Labor PartyG
Will gladly give support both full and heartyG
To ANY man who send this person HughesI
To well you know the term that I would useJ
Darling I must fill out a sheet or twoC
I know that youC
Are not much interested in politicsK
You are so full of such distracting tricksK
And I remember that last time you notedL
You said you simply dotedL
Upon one candidate's absurd moustacheM
Dear you were rashM
Now let me see 'twas Brown No Smithson was itL
I recollect the fool lost his depositL
But anyhowN
I want to warn you nowN
Against a repetition of such actsO
Let us get down to factsO
Can you believeP
Can you my precious pippin e'er conceiveP
That I despite my faults and obvious failings couldL
No that's no goodL
But canQ
You realise that a crowd of sane honest intelligent right thinking earnestL
idealistic politicians can evolve a really patriotic planQ
That's getting scientificR
But I am most remarkably prolificR
CanQ
They evolve a planQ
Predicating that any ordinary and say unspecified manQ
Your pardon I do notL
Refer to Mister WattL
But do you think they canQ
With decency declare that ANY MANQ
May get then into Office if he canQ
Indubitably NOS
The more I goS
However inter aliaG
Think you such men give heed to our AustraliaG
Think you those burningT
Questions waiting on the threshold yearningT
To be discussedL
Have got them 'fussed'L
No sweetest noS
It's just the Game you knowS
Think you they're patrioticR
Or just well say neuroticR
Think you they take the viewC
That these shrewd moves advance say me and youC
My dear they don'tL
And while the Party System lasts they won'tL
Those vital questionsU
Those statesmanlike suggestionsU
Regarding well why emigration sayD
And some reduction in a member's payD
That linger on the doormat palpitatingT
Will go on waitingT
While puerile politicians 'play the game '-
Ain't it a shameV
My cabbage I'd forgottenW
You always thought that politics were 'rotten '-
Pardon this letterX
Next time I shall endeavour to do betterX
If you are bored old thug it truly grieves meG
I hope this missive finds you as it leaves meG
So dear I'll meet you on the block at sixK
And spite all politicsK
We'll carry onY
