A Dogs' View Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDF GHGHIJIJ KLKLMNMI'm only just a common racing dog | A |
Simple in habit and my diet's plain | B |
I have never had a longing for the grog | C |
That some men seem to need more vim to gain | B |
And I have heard it said of such a one | D |
Who in his swilling emulates the hogs | E |
'He's boozing day and night he's getting done | D |
Poor man ' they say 'he's going to the dogs ' | F |
- | |
But now 'tis threatened that a dog should win | G |
A newer culture and a swifter pace | H |
By taking to the whisky and the gin | G |
That he may wax more reckless in the race | H |
And we who hitherto have been content | I |
With just a lap of water and a rub | J |
Will soon enough contract that human bent | I |
Of knocking off and going to the pub | J |
- | |
And then who knows Some badly balanced pup | K |
Weak willed and too intent on hectic joys | L |
Will learn too soon the way to liquor up | K |
And have a jolly evening with the boys | L |
And we shall say of such a one in blame | M |
'It's quite all right to have one new and then | N |
But he has overdone this drinkning game | M |
Poor dog ' we'll say 'He's going to the men ' | - |
