The Sweets Of Evening Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACB DEDDE FGFFG HIHHI

The sweets of evening charm the mindA
Sick of the sultry dayB
The body then no more confin'dA
But exercise with freedom join'dC
When Phoebus sheathes his rayB
-
While all serene the summer moonD
Sends glances thro' the treesE
And Philomel begins her tuneD
And Asteria too shall help her soonD
With voice of skillful easeE
-
A nosegay every thing that growsF
And music every soundG
To lull the sun to his reposeF
The skies are colour'd like the roseF
With lively streaks aroundG
-
Of all the changes rung by timeH
None half so sweet appearI
As those when thoughts themselves sublimeH
And with superior natures chimeH
In fancy's highest sphereI
