A Parable Of JesusA
-
The Twelve to Christ their Master cry'dB
Increase our faith The Lord reply'dB
If you had lively faith indeedB
But as a grain of mustard seedB
You might this sycomore commandB
To grow by sea and quit the landB
But whatsoe'er by faith is knownC
Or done by works is God's aloneC
For which of you shall have a handB
That plows and fodders at commandB
And to him thus anon shall sayD
Loos'd from the labour of the dayD
Go get thee in and take thy messE
And shall not rather thus addressE
Make ready that on which I supF
And gird thyself and bring it upF
And when thou'st serv'd my bowl and meatB
Then likewise thou shalt drink and eatB
What are the Master's thanks conferr'dB
On him who thus obey'd His wordB
Not they I trow So likewise youG
That done you were enjoin'd to doG
Shall better with submission ownC
Before your Master's aweful throneC
Our duty is but barely paidB
And 'twas by force that we obey'dB
And all our services are vainH
In which are neither grace nor gainH
