The Beggar-man Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEEFFAB CCGGHHICAB JJKKLLMMBAB

Abject stooping old and wanA
See yon wretched beggar manB
Once a father's hopeful heirC
Once a mother's tender careC
When too young to understandD
He but scorched his little handD
By the candle's flaming lightE
Attracted dancing spiral brightE
Clasping fond her darling roundF
A thousand kisses healed the woundF
Now abject stooping old and wanA
No mother tends the beggar manB
-
-
Then nought too good for him to wearC
With cherub face and flaxen hairC
In fancy's choicest gauds arrayedG
Cap of lace with rose to aidG
Milk white hat and feather blueH
Shoes of red and coral tooH
With silver bells to please his earI
And charm the frequent ready tearC
Now abject stooping old and wanA
Neglected is the beggar manB
-
-
See the boy advance in ageJ
And learning spreads her useful pageJ
In vain for giddy pleasure callsK
And shows the marbles tops and ballsK
What's learning to the charms of playL
The indulgent tutor must give wayL
A heedless wilful dunce and wildM
The parents' fondness spoiled the childM
The youth in vagrant courses ranB
Now abject stooping old and wanA
Their fondling is the beggar manB
