Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDE ABBBBE ABFFFE ABEEEE

Over the chimney the night wind sangA
And chanted a melody no one knewB
And the Woman stopped as her babe she tossedC
And thought of the one she had long since lostC
And said as her teardrops back she forcedD
I hate the wind in the chimneyE
-
Over the chimney the night wind sangA
And chanted a melody no one knewB
And the Children said as they closer drewB
'Tis some witch that is cleaving the black night throughB
'Tis a fairy trumpet that just then blewB
And we fear the wind in the chimneyE
-
Over the chimney the night wind sangA
And chanted a melody no one knewB
And the Man as he sat on his hearth belowF
Said to himself It will surely snowF
And fuel is dear and wages lowF
And I'll stop the leak in the chimneyE
-
Over the chimney the night wind sangA
And chanted a melody no one knewB
But the Poet listened and smiled for heE
Was Man and Woman and Child all threeE
And said It is God's own harmonyE
This wind we hear in the chimneyE
