Being The Only Genuine Sequel To Maud Muller	A

Maud Muller all that summer day	B
Raked the meadow sweet with hay	B
	-
Yet looking down the distant lane	C
She hoped the Judge would come again	D
	-
But when he came with smile and bow	E
Maud only blushed and stammered Ha ow	F
	-
And spoke of her pa and wondered whether	A
He'd give consent they should wed together	A
	-
Old Muller burst in tears and then	D
Begged that the Judge would lend him ten	D
	-
For trade was dull and wages low	F
And the craps this year were somewhat slow	F
	-
And ere the languid summer died	G
Sweet Maud became the Judge's bride	G
	-
But on the day that they were mated	H
Maud's brother Bob was intoxicated	I
	-
And Maud's relations twelve in all	J
Were very drunk at the Judge's hall	J
	-
And when the summer came again	D
The young bride bore him babies twain	C
	-
And the Judge was blest but thought it strange	K
That bearing children made such a change	K

For Maud grew broad and red and stout	L
And the waist that his arm once clasped about	L
	-
Was more than he now could span and he	M
Sighed as he pondered ruefully	M

How that which in Maud was native grace	N
In Mrs Jenkins was out of place	N

And thought of the twins and wished that they	B
Looked less like the men who raked the hay	B

On Muller's farm and dreamed with pain	C
Of the day he wandered down the lane	C

And looking down that dreary track	O
He half regretted that he came back	O

For had he waited he might have wed	P
Some maiden fair and thoroughbred	P

For there be women fair as she	M
Whose verbs and nouns do more agree	M

Alas for maiden alas for judge	Q
And the sentimental that's one half fudge	Q

For Maud soon thought the Judge a bore	R
With all his learning and all his lore	R

And the Judge would have bartered Maud's fair face	N
For more refinement and social grace	N

If of all words of tongue and pen	D
The saddest are It might have been	S

More sad are these we daily see	M
