Rhyme Scheme: AAABCCCB DDDBEEEB FGGBHHHB IIIBJJJB

Down the picket guarded laneA
Rolled the comfort laden wainA
Cheered by shouts that shook the plainA
Soldier like and merryB
Phrases such as camps may teachC
Sabre cuts of Saxon speechC
Such as Bully Them's the peachC
Wade in SanitaryB
-
Right and left the caissons drewD
As the car went lumbering throughD
Quick succeeding in reviewD
Squadrons militaryB
Sunburnt men with beards like friezeE
Smooth faced boys and cries like theseE
U S San Com That's the cheeseE
Pass in SanitaryB
-
In such cheer it struggled onF
Till the battle front was wonG
Then the car its journey doneG
Lo was stationaryB
And where bullets whistling flyH
Came the sadder fainter cryH
Help us brothers ere we dieH
Save us SanitaryB
-
Such the work The phantom fliesI
Wrapped in battle clouds that riseI
But the brave whose dying eyesI
Veiled and visionaryB
See the jasper gates swung wideJ
See the parted throng outsideJ
Hears the voice to those who rideJ
Pass in SanitaryB
