An Aerial RetrospectA
-
-
What was it filled my youthful dreamsB
In place of Greek or Latin themesB
Or beauty's wild bewildering beamsB
AvitorC
-
What visions and celestial scenesD
I filled with aerial machinesD
Montgolfier's and Mr Green'sD
AvitorC
-
What fairy tales seemed things of courseE
The roc that brought Sindbad acrossF
The Calendar's own winged horseE
AvitorC
-
How many things I took for factsG
Icarus and his conduct laxH
And how he sealed his fate with waxH
AvitorC
-
The first balloons I sought to sailI
Soap bubbles fair but all too frailI
Or kites but thereby hangs a tailI
AvitorC
-
What made me launch from attic tallJ
A kitten and a parasolJ
And watch their bitter frightful fallJ
AvitorC
-
What youthful dreams of high renownK
Bade me inflate the parson's gownK
That went not up nor yet came downK
AvitorC
-
My first ascent I may not tellJ
Enough to know that in that wellJ
My first high aspirations fellJ
AvitorC
-
My other failures let me passL
The dire explosions and alasL
The friends I choked with noxious gasL
AvitorC
-
For lo I see perfected riseM
The vision of my boyish eyesM
The messenger of upper skiesM
AvitorC
