The Earth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDA EFDAF DDGD HHHI JDDK LMND DOD PQAAAQ RSDDRT

Spring bursts violentlyA
into Moscow housesB
Moths flutter aboutC
crawl on summer hatsD
and furs hide secretlyA
-
Pots of wallflowers and stockE
stand in the window justF
of wooden second storeysD
the rooms breathe libertyA
the smell of attics is dustF
-
The street is friendsD
with the bleary glassD
and white night and sunsetG
at one by the river passD
-
In the passage you ll knowH
what s going on belowH
and April s casual flowH
of words with drops of thawI
-
It s a thousand stories veiledJ
in a human sadnessD
and twilight along the fenceD
grows chill with the taleK
-
Outside or snug at homeL
the same fire and hesitationM
everywhere air s unsureN
The same cut willow twigsD
-
the same white swell of budsD
at crossroads windows aboveO
in streets and workshop doorsD
-
Then why does the far horizon weepP
in mist and the soil smell bitterQ
After all it s my calling surelyA
to see no distance is lonelyA
and past the town boundaryA
to see that earth doesn t sufferQ
-
That s why in early springR
we meet my friends and IS
and our evenings are farewell documentsD
our gatherings are testamentsD
so the secret stream of sufferingR
may warm the cold of lifeT
