The Grain Tribute Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCADEFGHIJKLEMN

There came an officer knocking by night at my doorA
In a loud voice demanding grain tributeB
My house servants dared not wait till the morningC
But brought candles and set them on the barn floorA
Passed through the sieve clean washed as pearlsD
A whole cart load thirty bushels of grainE
But still they cry that it is not paid in fullF
With whips and curses they goad my servants and boysG
Once in error I entered public lifeH
I am inwardly ashamed that my talents were not sufficientI
In succession I occupied four official postsJ
For doing nothing ten years salaryK
Often have I heard that saying of ancient menL
That good and ill follow in an endless chainE
And to day it ought to set my heart at restM
To return to others the corn in my great barnN
