The Dragon Of The Black Pool Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDECFGCHCHIHJHKLGC MNOCPQ

Deep the waters of the Black Pool colored like inkA
They say a Holy Dragon lives there whom men have never seenB
Beside the Pool they have built a shrine the authoritiesC
have established a ritualD
A dragon by itself remains a dragon but men can make it a godE
Prosperity and disaster rain and drought plagues and pestilencesC
By the village people were all regarded as the Sacred Dragon s doingF
They all made offerings of sucking pig and poured libations of wineG
The morning prayers and evening gifts depended on a medium s adviceC
When the dragon comes ahH
The wind stirs and sighsC
Paper money thrown ahH
Silk umbrellas wavedI
When the dragon goes ahH
The wind also stillJ
Incense fire dies ahH
The cups and vessels are coldK
Meats lie stacked on the rocks of the Pool s shoreL
Wine flows on the grass in front of the shrineG
I do not know of all those offerings how much the Dragon eatsC
But the mice of the woods and the foxes of the hills are continually drunk and satedM
Why are the foxes so luckyN
What have the sucking pigs doneO
That year by year they should be killed merely to glut the foxesC
That the foxes are robbing the Sacred Dragon and eating His sucking pigP
Beneath the nine fold depths of His pool does He know or notQ
