Illness And Idleness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDBEABF BGFHIJBK

Illness and idleness give me much leisureA
What do I do with my leisure when it comesB
I cannot bring myself to discard inkstone and brushC
Now and then I make a new poemD
When the poem is made it is slight and flavourlessB
A thing of derision to almost every oneE
Superior people will be pained by the flatness of the metreA
Common people will hate the plainness of the wordsB
I sing it to myself then stop and think about itF
-
The Prefects of Soochow and Peng tseB
Would perhaps have praised it but they died long agoG
Who else would care to hear itF
No one today except Yuan ChenH
And he is banished to the City of Chiang lingI
For three years an usher in the Penal CourtJ
Parted from me by three thousand leaguesB
He will never know even that the poem was madeK
