Come Winter merry WinterA
Rejoice while yet you mayB
For nearer ever nearerA
Fair Summer draws each dayB
And soon the tiny snowdropsC
Shall waken from their sleepD
And mossy banks from underA
The modest violets peepD
-
The apple trees shall scatterA
Their buds at Summer's feetE
And with their fragrant odorsC
Make every zephyr sweetE
While Nature of wild rosesC
And lilies frail and whiteF
Shall make a wreath for SummerA
And crown her with delightF
-
Forth from the smiling heavensC
Shall fall the gentle rainG
The earth shall feel her presenceC
And welcome her with grainG
The birds shall come and twitterA
And build amid the boughsC
So Winter merry WinterA
While yet you may carouseC
-
We love you merry WinterA
You and the joys you bringH
And loud and long your praisesC
Throughout the world we singH
But Summer gentle SummerA
Comes shyly through the gladeI
And draws all hearts to love herA
So fair is she arrayedI
-
We love the merry sleighingH
The swinging snowshoe trampJ
While in the clear cold heavensC
The calm moon holds her lampJ
-
We love the breathless coastingH
The skating and the gamesC
Played amid shouts of laughterA
Around the hearth fire flamesC
-
But Summer winsome SummerA
Holds greater stores of blissC
When all the land awakensC
And blossoms at her kissC
We soon shall feel her presenceC
And breathe her perfumed breathK
Then Winter dear old WinterA
We will not mourn your deathK
