There is a spot far from the world's uproar	A
Amid great mountains	B
Where softly sleeps a lake to whose still shore	A
Steal silvery fountains	B
That hide beneath the leafy underwood	C
And blend their voices with the solitude	D

Save where the beaver meadow's olive sheen	E
In sunlight glimmers	F
On every side a mass of waving green	E
The forest shimmers	F
And oft re echoes with the black bear's tread	G
That silences the song birds overhead	G

Here thickly droops the moss from patriarch trees	H
And loons fly wailing	I
Here king birds' screams come hoarsely down the breeze	H
And hawks are sailing	I
Above the trees Here Nature dwells alone	J
Of man unknowing and to man unknown	J

Smiling she rises when the morning air	K
The dawn just breaking	I
Bids the still woodlands for the day prepare	K
And Life awaking	I
Welcomes the Sun whose bride the Morn is kissed	L
And blushing lays aside her veil of mist	L
	-
Here Nature with each passing hour reveals	M
Peculiar graces	N
At noonday she grows languid and then steals	M
To shady places	O
And revels in their coolness at her feet	P
A stream that fills with music her retreat	P
	-
At eve she comes and blushing like a maid	Q
Unrobes in shadows	R
Bathes in the lake and wanders through the glade	Q
And o'er the meadows	R
From her dank locks wherever she doth pass	S
The diamond dew drops dripping to the grass	S
	-
And then she sleeps when o'er the lake's calm tide	T
The Moon comes stealing	I
And draws from her the veil of night aside	T
Her charms revealing	I
While silent stars keep ceaseless watch above	U
And all the earth breathes peace and rest and love	U
