Memory gleams like a gem at nightA
Through the gloom of to day for meB
Bringing dreams of a summer brightA
At ChateauguayC
-
Summer sleeps in the ripening cornD
Sunlight glitters on wood and leaB
Scent of flowers on the air is borneD
At ChateauguayC
-
Swiftly rushes the river byE
Through the lake to the far off seaB
Full of light as a maiden's eyeE
At ChateauguayC
-
Stands a house by the river sideF
Weeds upspring where the hearth should beB
Only its tottering walls abideF
At ChateauguayC
-
Birds are singing the live long dayG
Trembling stoopeth an aspen treeB
Eager to hear what the wind will sayG
At ChateauguayC
-
Still the sunlight around me fallsH
Still in fancy I seem to seeB
Two who stand on the crumbling wallsH
At ChateauguayC
-
Once more wanders a brown eyed maidI
Up the rough country road with meB
Swinging her hat by its slender braidI
At ChateauguayC
-
Once for a moment more we stayG
Under the tattling aspen treeB
Birds are sweetly lilting to dayG
At ChateauguayC
-
Tree thou art dear for that sweet trystJ
Dear for the maiden's sake to meB
Is each spot that her feet have kissedJ
At ChateauguayC
