A January Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ BKBK

King Winter sleeps His daughter SpringA
His sceptre steals awayB
And laughing bids fair Nature bringA
For once a perfect dayB
-
Bright glows the sun in azure skiesC
And balmy blows the breezeD
On gayer wing the sparrow fliesC
And softly sway the treesD
-
The seasons run like some great streamE
That to the ocean flowsF
The waves that here in sunshine gleamE
Bound there in mountain snowsF
-
And as where darkling waters stealG
Drear walls of rock betweenH
Yet in their depths a gem revealG
That glows with sunny sheenH
-
So in this blustering month that bearsI
The banner of the yearJ
Such days as this with balmy airsI
Amid the storms appearJ
-
It is but meet that thy birthdayB
Should open bright and warmK
And into darkness fade awayB
Without a cloud or stormK
